Hands-On Activity: Teamwork Train
Description:
In this activity, students will work together to build a "Teamwork Train" using geometric shapes. Each student will create a personalized boxcar to add to the train, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and creativity. The finished train will be displayed as a reminder of how working together leads to great results!
Preparation:
Materials Needed:
Rectangle and circle shape patterns
Colored construction paper (various colors)
Black construction paper
Scissors, pencils, glue
Pre-made locomotive model (locomotive with a smokestack)

Steps:
Discuss working together and teamwork:
Explain that by working together as a class, the students will build a long train with a boxcar representing each student.Explain that when friends work together, good things can happen!
Introduce Geometric Shapes:
Show children pictures of trains or draw a simple model.
Point out the geometric shapes (rectangles, circles, and cylinders).
Create Boxcars:
Help students trace and cut out one rectangle from colored construction paper for their boxcar.
Cut two wheels (circles) from black construction paper.
Glue the wheels onto the boxcar.
Sign and Personalize:
Encourage students to sign and date their boxcars.
Add decorations or details if desired.
Build the Train:
Collaboratively attach the boxcars in a row behind the locomotive on a bulletin board or classroom wall.
